10 Of The Best Home Improvements That Transformed My Home
Making the right home improvement choices is very difficult especially with a limited budget. Over the course of several years, we’ve decided to make some home improvements that have literally transformed our home. I’m glad to say that in retrospect, they are some of the best decisions we’ve made.
Whether its small repairs or larger projects like installing additional cabinets, redesigning a room, or building an additional closet, it’s always best to create a punch-list or detailed outline of what the project will entail.
This will help you adhere to your budget better. Of course, you always have the option of using home improvement loans if you’re okay with adding a new expense to your monthly payments.
It seems there’s always an endless list of to-do projects doesn’t there? What projects are on your list? We just had our roof and gutters cleaned too so don’t forget to maintain the outside of your home as well as the inside!
Whether its small repairs or larger projects like installing additional cabinets, redesigning a room, or building an additional closet, it’s always best to create a punch-list or detailed outline of what the project will entail.
We also have plans to finish the unused attic space in our home too. This upcoming project will be one of the largest we attempted since we’ve purchased our home. Super exciting!
Below, is a roundup of 10 of the best home improvements that transformed my home. I hope you get inspired by them and get some ideas for your home too!
1 – How To Beautify Your Kitchen Cabinets With New Hardware Pulls And Knobs
Are your kitchen cabinets boring? Are you looking for an easy way to beautify them? You don’t have to spend a fortune or work for hours painting your kitchen cabinets anymore. Adding new hardware to your cabinets is super easy to update and turn your old kitchen cabinets into a masterpiece!
This project turned out to be easier than we thought! I did hire someone to do the install and it only took them about an hour to complete. I also recorded a video on the install process so you can install them easily as well.
You can see many of the before, after, and installing processes in the post as well including the hardware and where I got it online.
2 – Spice Up Your Kitchen With Mosaic Tiles You Can Make Yourself!
Breaking up some old tiles and crafting them into something wonderful is easier than you thought! I love how adding tiles to my kitchen island transformed a dull kitchen island instantly.
I really enjoy working with broken ceramic tiles. You can do so much with it when crafting. I created this before I started blogging so I don’t have images of the process available. It’s really easy to do – honest!
And, I went to my local tile distributor and they gave me loads of tiles they were throwing out so it was a win-win! You can do that too. Find a local ceramic tile company and ask them – you would be surprised at how many ceramic tiles they throw away.
Everyone loves it when they enter my kitchen. It’s easy to do and you can be as creative as you want!
3 – Transform Your Stairs With A Decorative Runner
We’ve lived in this house for 10 years now, and I’ve always wanted to get these stairs carpeted. Finally, about two years ago it happened!
I know it’s not a huge deal, but we’ve always had something more pressing to do, and the stairs were always put last on that list. What motivated me?
Well, I read an article on how much safer it is to have them carpeted – and that’s what did it! Even the installer mentioned that fact while installing the carpet. I guess if you take a flop, it makes a lot more sense to have a cushion under your butt!
I made sure to choose a good quality runner as I knew it would last longer and keep its visual integrity too if I chose a better quality so I made sure to do some investigating before I made a decision about which band and fabric to go with.
I initially chose this carpet, and it was way over budget. It’s a beauty, but very expensive and way over my budget.
I fell in love with this one and am thrilled with the way it turned out. After two years, it still looks brand new and with all the foot traffic, I’m thrilled.
4 – Adding Additional Cabinets Transformed My Bathroom
This project was a game-changer for my bathroom. I started by changing the builder’s cabinet with a triple mirrored cabinet.
I was so thrilled with the storage and the design, I decided to add two more as well as another one over the toilet.
You can never have too many cabinets! The mirror design makes the bathroom look larger too, so it’s a win-win!
I love the extra storage and how it transformed my entire bathroom too. It’s wasn’t super expensive either and took a few hours to install.
Now, I can find what I need with ease! I love housing all of my beauty items in them. Maybe, you need a little extra space too!
5 – Transform And Organize Your Garage With Designer Cabinets!
This home improvement project is still one of my favorites. I can’t tell you how amazing the difference was installing these cabinets in the garage.
You can transform your old garage space into something fabulous! Organize your garage space and transform it into living usable space easily.
It’s almost like having our kitchen extended (as the kitchen door leads out to the garage).
We bought the cabinets at Lowe’s and they happened to be on sale which was a major plus for us! We love it! Head on over to the post and see the rest of them!
6 – Decorative Facade Traditional Bermuda Bronze Lay In On Kitchen Island
We decided to upgrade our kitchen island with this lovely decorative façade traditional Bermuda bronze tile. I can’t tell you what a difference it makes to the kitchen.
Before it was bland and white, now it’s sexy and adds a flare to the entire island. I had to hire a contractor to install them.
They are not the easiest to do yourself unless you are really handy, but the contractor didn’t charge that much, and it took around 4 hours from start to finish.
7 – Creating A Small Walk-in Closet That Packs A Punch!
This project has made me so happy and excited. There was this odd space in my master bedroom and it was this empty corner that was basically useless.
We decided to put that space to good use by building a small walk-in. I love it and can’t express how useful this now is. Of course, we hired a contractor. I had a small space to work with so I had no choice but to be sassy when designing it.
This space was essentially useless before and now, it’s given me the freedom of enjoying a walk-in!
This is what it looked like before we moved it. You can see an entire wasted space and that’s where the walk-in was created!
8 – Stikwood – A Stunning DIY Peel and Stik Wood Planking Solution
This project made a stunning improvement in my home. It’s always exciting to discover new gorgeous ways to add decor to our homes.
And with Stikwood you can easily create a stunning DIY peel and stick wood planking solution anywhere in your home or business.
You can use Stikwood anyplace in your home. Your imagination is limitless. It’s a DIYers dream come true.
When I saw a peel and stick product that delivered such stunning results in no time at all, I knew I had to have it in my home.
The before and after are astounding!
I can’t stop staring at it! It’s that stunning in its beauty and unique appearance.
9 – How To Transform Your Stairs From Boring To Alluring
If you have stairs that are boring and could use an easy transformation then this tutorial is one you are going to flip over.
I was able to take my stairs from burning to alluring in just one day – actually, in a few short hours.
This is what they looked like before. Plain, boring, and something you would just walk past and not blink an eye at. This stair transformation was focused on the stair stringers.
Mine are called “cut stringers” – there are different types and styles of stringers as well.
Every time I look at the stairs, I am thrilled with the results. This is one transformation I will never forget. It was moderately easy and only cost about $50!
I’d say that’s pretty alluring! Be sure to head on over and check out exactly how I created this!
10 – How To Get Rid Of Patio Weeds Without Chemicals
This project was a lifesaver! It’s been our second summer and still no weeds and it was all done without chemicals!
If you have a brick patio and are sick of those nasty weeds then you must try this solution! There is a way to get rid of patio weeks without using chemicals.
A few years ago, we restructured our brick patio and added more bricks to it. Little did we realize that even though we used plastic sheeting under the bricks, weeds would find a home there regardless of the precautions we took.
Does your patio look like this? Aren’t you tired of pulling weeds? Well, here’s the perfect chemical-free solution!
Now, we can love our backyard space again and never have to worry about those nasty weeds popping up and ruining our downtime! I hope you were able to get a solution to your weed problems too.
Here’s another smaller home improvement that made a huge difference in my home. How To Easily Transform Old Floor Vents To Brand New –
Are your floor vents old, worn, and rusty? Well, if so, there’s never been an easier way to transform them back to brand new!
I’ve been on a mission the past month to repair all the “little things” that drive me mad – like the rusty floor vents that magically appeared one day when I wasn’t looking.
The before and after is astounding! Be sure to check out that post as well.
11 – We newly added a new improvement! Check it out here – I know you will love reading about it. It transformed my foyer!
I rely on the inspiration of other people’s home improvement projects. I hope you were able to get some ideas for your home too.
