A Makeup Vanity Transformation Using Chalk Paints
A Makeup Vanity Transformation Using Chalk Paints
Refinish your old vanity into something elegant and beautiful easily! A few years ago, I bought a makeup vanity from Raymour & Flanigan. It’s one of my favorite furniture stores in this area. After much abuse from being careless and having a makeup obsession, I decided to give it a makeover!
I’ve refinished a few pieces of furniture before but never used chalk paints on any of them. You can see them here and here. I was excited to see what all the chalk paint hype was all about and figured my battered vanity would be a great place to start.
This was the mess that was my lovely vanity. I am so thrilled the way it turned out and I saved loads of money not having to replace it!
Here are some of the steps I took to get this look. It’s really an amazing transformation. I love using chalk paints and now they are readily available just about everywhere!
I used Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paints. I bought them at Michael’s
As you can see, two coats really do the trick!
You can easily freehand a lot of the detail work too when you use Chalk Paints. It really makes refinishing so easy!
I wanted to add something colorful and fun to the top so I decided to use stenciling. It worked out perfectly!
These are the star decals I used. They made such an amazingly different and really added a designer look to my vanity!
I thought the bench would be nice in a two-tone which blended all the color elements together nicely.
And voila! My vanity has been transformed!
I also changed the hardware which really added some flair. Check out the hardware I used here.
Below, you will find a quick video of the final results. I hope you get to enjoy working with chalk paints too!

That is a really nice makeover :) which kinda makes me feel bad because I also have some chairs I would like to transform, but I do procrastinate haha. Anyway, your result makes my creative juices flowing ;)
A quick question : I am pretty scared of harsh paint smells, I can’t stand them… So what about those chalk paints?
Hi Chris, thanks much for stopping and your lovely comment. Firstly, chalk paints do not have any odor at all. That is one of the main reasons I love them and use them. They are easy to use and cover quickly. Plus, you don’t really have to do any prep work! It’s a win win! If you redo your chairs, please be sure to stop back and share the results. I would love to see them. Have a wonderful weekend!
Awesome :) no prep work as well, it sounds even better :) That is not a win win, it is a triple win situation haha.
