5 Diet and Health Regimens You Should Try This Year
Last year, I decided to make Keto Diet back in May. Since then, I’ve lost over 40 pounds and feel the changes dramatically. Below, you’ll find some of the things I’ve been doing that work for me and might work for you too!
5 Diet and Health Regimens For A New You
The old year is out, and the new year is here, and we all know what that means: once more doing our best to become a better and healthier version of ourselves. But, of course, that’s easier said than done, especially if we haven’t been taking care of our health these past few years. This is especially true if we’ve tried before and failed spectacularly at it, ending up even worse than before.
However, with some changes in our diet and lifestyle and a heaping dose of self-perseverance, we can make 2019 the year that we finally get that dream body we’ve always wanted. To help you with this, we’ve assembled some of the best diet and health regimen tips you should try this year.
Switch out dairy milk for plant-based milk alternatives
If you can’t resist your daily bowl of milk for your cereal or your nightly dessert of a tall glass of chocolate milk, then why not take the healthier route and try drinking plant-based milk instead? If you weren’t aware, plant-based milk is “milk” products derived from all-natural plant sources. These sources range from beans, grains, and even nuts.
They’re made to have the same rich and creamy consistency as regular milk while at the same time having nowhere near the number of calories or cholesterol. They’re also fortified with additional vitamins and nutrients to ensure you’re not missing out on regular milk’s nutrition. This makes plant-based milk much easier to include in a healthy, low-calorie diet.
Even though I didn’t drink too much milk during the day, I switched to Almond Milk which is plant-based, and I have to say, I love it! It’s delish in my cereal, and it tastes much better too!
Take up a combat sport
No, we’re not talking about getting into a fight club and getting bruises all over your face that you’ll have to explain to your boss the next day. No, this is all about you signing up at your local gym to get into a daily boxing or kickboxing training session with a qualified instructor.
Years ago, I studied karate and got my brown belt. I loved it and was very dedicated. I still practice some of the exercises I’ve learned, which helps me get moving. Adding exercise to my diet and health regimens has been one of my positive things!
While it may seem intimidating, it’s really not—all they’ll do is teach you how to do the basics and then practice them repeatedly while ensuring you’re safe by wearing protective gear. So not only will you get a great cardio workout with every session, and your hand-eye coordination and reflexes will also be honed.
More importantly, it lets you vent stress in a much more active and cathartic way. You won’t even have to spar with anyone in the ring to be able to reap all these benefits—not unless you want to!
Add more fiber to your diet
Fiber is one of the essential parts of a healthy diet that’s also very easy to neglect. After all, who wants to go through the trouble of steaming or stir-frying vegetables when you can order fast food takeout? It’s simply more convenient and arguably more delicious. However, in doing so, you open yourself up to a lot of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as being morbidly obese besides.
For easier reassurance that you get your daily fiber intake, you can always supplement it with psyllium husk, chia seeds powder, oat bran, or natural supplements like DoFasting’s.
I can’t stress this enough, adding fiber to your diet does much good forgreatly benefits your body. It helps regulate your bowel movements and clean your intestines by providing roughage. More than that, fiber also helps make you feel fuller faster and longer, preventing overeating. This results in gradual but significant weight loss, as well as the stabilization of your blood sugars and cholesterol.
I’m a huge fan of bars that contain lots of fiber, and I always throw a few in my handbag in case I get hungry throughout the day. They are suitable for you and a great way to get your daily fiber too!
Fix your sleeping schedule
Another key health regimen you should take up this year is getting enough sleep. Unfortunately, thanks to technology and our busy everyday life, getting eight total hours of sleep is more of a rare luxury than anything else, especially for those of us who work irregular hours.
This, of course, has a lot of awful consequences for your health, from hampering your ability to keep mental focus to poor recovery from injuries and exercise. Any of these can easily land you in the hospital, not to mention make you feel crummy all over.
Manage your schedule better. Try your best to get at least seven to eight hours per night of sleep—no more, no less. Remove all gadgets and anything with screens from your bedroom. If you work in the night shift, invest in thick curtains and warm light to simulate nighttime.
I’ve worked hard to try new techniques to ensure I’m getting the sleep I need. You can take melatonin which many folks find very helpful. There are so many fantastic apps out there that can help you get the sleep you need and stay asleep. Be sure to do some research and check them out.
Prioritize probiotics
Probiotics may seem like some new-age nonsense spun to make you buy pricey food from expensive grocery aisles, but studies have shown that they . For one, up to 80% of our immune system resides in the digestive tract.
As the immune system is practically the only barrier we have against diseases and conditions, ensuring that it’s in good health by taking probiotics goes a long way to keeping ourselves physically fit and fine. Besides this, probiotics have also been discovered to positively affect anxiety management and mood regulation.
I recently wrote an article on why it’s important to take probiotics daily so be sure to read that too. You don’t have to splurge on your organic market to get good probiotics, however. Adding fermented foods such as kimchi or sauerkraut can easily help. Greek yogurt is also something that you should look into. If you want a fresher approach to probiotics, then vegetables such as onions, garlic, asparagus, and cabbage will do the trick.
Conclusion
Don’t be content to stay the same way you’ve always been for the past few years. By adding the above tips to your health and diet regimen, you can finally transform yourself into the new and better you you’ve always dreamt of. Remember to take it one day at a time andnever give up, no matter how many times you fall off the wagon.
I’ve still got more weight to lose, and I know I will achieve my goal because I’m determined and excited by the results! You can do this too! Just start with day one, and each day make sure you tell yourself it’s a new day!

I really like the taste of almond milk best. I’m not a huge milk drinker but do enjoy it in my cereal. I hope you get to try it too, Sue!
