  • 2 Large Vidalia Onions
  • 1/4 cup Cooking Oil - any type will do we use canola oil.
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • Garlic and Onion Powder to taste
  • Salt & Pepper to Taste

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, fry chopped onions in oil on medium heat.
  2. When onions are golden brown, remove from stove and let cool.
  3. Add water, ketchup, tomato paste, and seasoning.
  4. Cook on medium heat until the mixture starts to boil!

Once you eat hot dogs with these Sabrett pushcart style onions, there’s no going back! However, I love Nathan’s hot dogs best, so give them a try and see for yourself!

  1. I have never heard of such a thing! We’ll sort of. When we get together for BBQ with the family, we cook onions in foil packets with spices and butter. These look fantastic and I’ve never had them on a hotdog before! Something I’m going to have to try next time for sure. Oh and … dirty water? Lol

  4. Hi Cori, lol yes, dirty water hot dogs are a thing in NYC. They call it that bc they sit in the water and it looks dirty but it’s not. They are really delicious! We love making these onions and it saves is from having to spend $6 on a small jar. You will love them!
