Fried Blue Stone Crabs In Savory Tomato Sauce Over Pasta Recipe
If you love crabs, there’s nothing more savory and delicious than fried blue stone crabs in red sauce over pasta. Once the fall weather hits, we love cooking more savory meals on the stove now that’s it’s cooling down. Today, I prepared a recipe that’s so mouth-watering good, everyone will love it.
The aroma of garlic and seafood filled the house as we patiently waited for the pasta to boil. While this recipe is perfect all year round, it’s especially delicious this time of year.
It starts out with live fresh crabs from the fish market! My hubby is a seafood fanatic; this recipe is one of his favorites! I store them in the fridge for a few hours before cooking. If you love seafood dishes, you must try our Shrimp Scampi recipe. It’s so good, you’ll make it every week!

They have to be cleaned well and prepped for cooking first.
Start by giving them a good wash in the sink.
Then, pull out the outer shell. You can pull that off entirely and discard.
You also have to pull off the back end of the shell to reveal the insides and clean that part well by removing all loose internals.
They are not that difficult to clean. You can easily see what needs to be removed.
Once fully cleaned, your crabs should look like this.
And the frying process begins with freshly cleaned and seasoned blue crabs.
You can eat them fried too without the sauce if you prefer. They are so good just as is as well.
Frying the crabs up with seasoning gives them even more flavor.
Be sure to flip the crabs over while frying them at least twice to make sure they are nice and brown in color.
Once your crabs are clean, set aside and start the sauce. There’s always fresh garlic!
And the sauce is so easy with canned tomatoes!
And course, let’s not forget the wine! We love adding a nice red dry wine.
With the garlic, onion, and olive oil cooking, you can see this dish is going to be delicious.
Now that the sauce is done, it’s time to add the fried crabs.
Add the crabs to the sauce and cook for at least an hour.
Give them a stir every 20 minutes or so.
You can see a difference in the consistency of the sauce after it’s been cooking for over an hour. Delicious and ready to go! Time to boil the water for the pasta. You can use any type of pasta you like. We like it with thin spaghetti!
Pair it with some fresh corn on the cob – cleaned and ready to boil! The perfect side dish!
Now, it’s time to eat!

Wow Carolann that looks absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to go and make that. Thanks for a great recipe.
Thanks so much Patti. I know this is dish you would love. It was so amazing! Hope you get to make it soon xo
The crabs before cooking look like jewelry. This is one of your great recipes I think. We love crab so if hubby will clean them, I would cook them with your recipe for sure.
Thank you Sue. It was so very delicious for sure. Yes, have hubby clean them. I do too. Once they are clean, the rest is easy! xo
Even if someone’s not a seafood lover the sauce looks fantastic on its own. The crabs are smaller than I thought they’d be. I’ve never tried them but would like to some day. The shells on these are edible, right? Does it require the boiling after frying or can you eat them out of the pan if you want?
It all looks so yummy
I wish we could get fresh crabs here in Arizona. Not sure I trust what’s in the grocery store! So we save a lot of our seafood devouring for our trips to the CA coast! Your sauce and pasta look really good. Visiting from BOB Tribe.
Hi Victoria, Wow, it’s hard to believe you can’t get fresh crabs in Arizona. I guess it’s a shipping issue? I’m in PA and we get the most awesome fresh crabs ever. This dish is amazing. I hope you can get to try it someday. You can use frozen crabs too. I would just make sure they are not farm raised. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

Hi Toni! Yes, these are smaller bluestone crabs. They are perfect for this recipe. It’s off the hook amazing! These shells are not edible but they become very soft and easy to manage when cooked. Nope, no boiling at all required. After you fry them, they finish cooking in the sauce. We love eating them fried too. I hope you get to try them someday. I promise, you will love it. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great rest of the weekend.
