Allergy Shots and Chronic Hives

Hives surface at precisely the wrong time for many people. It seems like you can just be walking outside, and you start feeling a little warm.

The next thing you know, hives begin to surface on your arm or neck. You cannot find any reason why they are happening or how to get rid of them?

Let me give you an example. You play out all the scenarios in your head and start thinking about the options. Instead of suffering, you could be out having a fun time shopping.

It’s so frustrating when you are out having fun and hives began to appear on your hand. You think to yourself, “It seems like the hives are coming out of my more often and there are more of them each time. There is no reason for this. Why is this happening?”

It’s very frustrating because you can’t seem to figure out the problem. Now, it’s time to stop the frustration and do some research to get some help understanding these chronic hives.

You find out that many people suffer from chronic hives and are not sure why they have chronic hives. Just like you do. There are a lot of people that want to know how to stop the hives but are not sure what to do or who to turn to for help.

Are they Hives or Angioedema?

You learn that hives are also called Urticaria, and there is something else that you are experiencing that you thought were hives. Angioedema is where the swelling stays under the skin.

Maybe you noticed that around your lips several times the last few weeks. Histamine produced from our bodies causes hives and angioedema and all of the online information confirms it.

The chemical histamine releases from some of the skin’s cells that line the blood vessels.

That is where the hives come from the cells in the skin. Now, you know there are several different kinds of hives as well.

Some types of hives can form by stimulation to the skin from sun, cold, heat, vibration, pressure, scratching the skin and even sweating can make hives.

As a child, my parents sent me for allergy shots to treat my asthma and chronic hives. Fortunately, my parents had the insight to send me for allergy shots as a child.

Short Term Relief From Hives

Yes, there are a variety of different scenarios that can trigger hives.

With that being the case, you feel that you need to figure out how to manage the hives until you can get some help to find the allergy triggers. So you find these tips and have been trying them:

  • Apply cool, wet cloths to the areas with the hives
  • Keep the body cool, especially when working and sleeping
  • Wear clothes that fit loose and are light-weight cotton or soft fabrics
  • Reduce stress with deep breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Find constructive ways to relieve emotional pressure

So, you have been trying some of the suggested techniques.

The cool clothes seem to work, especially if your skin is warm. You have been wearing looser, soft clothing and you think that is helping just cause you do not feel tied up in clothing.

It makes you feel more relaxed and flowing. You have been working on getting to bed by 10:00 pm. That is really hard to keep consistent because of your schedule. But you are going to continue to work on the early bedtime so you get plenty of sleep.

You have to remember to practice deep breathing when you feel tense and stressed too.

You try to think calm thoughts and just breathe. While you see the hives fade away a little quicker, you still seem to suffer from chronic hives regularly.

They are coming out more often, and there are more of them each time.

Waiting to Get Help — Good or Bad?

One thing you do know for sure, if you start wheezing, get super dizzy, begin having difficulty breathing or your face and tongue swell. You realize now it’s time to call and schedule an appointment with your doctor immediately.

Finally, you begin to think you need to be a little more proactive. Before you get to the point of a need to go to the emergency room, you better make an appointment to see an allergy doctor.

Finding The Right Allergist

Everything you have researched points to the fact you need to find an allergist.

You now know you need to see about allergy treatment. Next, it’s time to make an appointment with an allergy specialist to find out what are your specific allergies.

This way you can try to avoid the triggers and stop having hives all the time. The doctor will probably want to do a blood test and then start the allergy testing and allergy shots.

While you heard allergy testing is not fun, it will be useful to know the things you are allergic to. Then you can get to the bottom of why you have hives all the time.

Scheduling The Allergy Testing

It will be so nice to get the results from the testing. Hopefully, the doctor can prescribe allergy treatment, and you will be on the road to recovery.

It may take a little while. But “anything worth having is worth waiting for” is how the saying goes.

If you are suffering from chronic hives, hopefully, you can learn from this experience.

Be sure to try out the tips that many have found to help reduce the discomfort felt from an episode of hives.

Allergy Treatment Options

Most important of all seek out an experienced allergy doctor and get allergy treatment. Dr. Ran Rubinstein, allergy doctor from Hudson Valley, notes that allergy shots are effective when treating hives.

He also states, that once you determine the cause of your allergy and the appropriate treatment, you will then begin a treatment plan like immunotherapy.

Many people find out that hives start small and as a basic inconvenience, but when the hives become a chronic problem they better not wait to see a doctor.

Planning for a course of treatment including allergy shot just might work perfectly for you or your loved one.
