For the past few months, we’ve been checking into flooring ideas for our bedrooms. It’s so important to do the research and know what your options are first.
Choosing the right flooring for your home can be difficult because there are many different styles and materials to choose from. Regardless of your budget, there’s the right flooring option for you out there.
Flooring Ideas You Need To See
We need new flooring for our three bedrooms. We’ve investigated some flooring ideas for the past few monthsto decide finally!
To make things easier, we are sharing what we’ve learned in our research with you!
Flooring Ideas
1- Choosing Something Practical
When it comes to replacing or adding new flooring, you will need to make sure you choose something practical and match the color palette for your home.
If you are not into coordinating colors in your home, that’s fine, too! Remember, at the end of the day, it’s all about your style and comfort level.
For example, if you have children or any animals, there might be better decisions than carpets all over the house, especially if it is light in color. Remember, carpets are hard to keep clean and are not as easy to remove dirt and stains.
Side note: I discovered one of the best carpet cleaners ever! It’s called Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Solution Spot & Stain Remover Spray and is sold on Amazon. It’s the best stain remover ever and the only one I’ll ever use!
My daughter got grease stains on one of my bedroom custom Levolor blinds, and it would not come out until I used the spot and stain remover on it! It worked like magic! Finally, there’s a product that didn’t damage the fabric and worked 100% at removing the stain.
It works great on any stain you have in your home, too. I would be remiss if I left this excellent product out of this article on flooring ideas.
2 – Carpets
Of course, carpeting is one of the most popular options. This is because they can be comfortable walking on and keep your home warmer. There are many different styles of carpets and many colors to choose from, which means you can find a perfect match to the overall color theme of your home.
I love decorating with area rugs, too. There’s so much you can do with them; you can always find a great sale, especially on Amazon.
Although you may want to get carpets, it is essential to remember that they can be challenging to keep clean, especially if they are lighter. If you don’t have a carpet cleaner, you must find other ways to clean your carpets.
There are pros and cons to installing carpeting in your home, although it’s one of the most popular flooring ideas.
Pros:
- Carpeting is always so soft and warm on your feet and pleasant to walk on.
- It’s very flexible too. You can choose from a casual look or a formal one depending on the type you choose.
- It’s available in a wide variety of texture and styles. And designed to fit perfectly into your lifestyle.
Cons:
- The most obvious con first – stains are not always a nuisance to clean especially if you have small children.
- Carpeting stretches over the years and causes ripples and bumps. The seams can show as well if not properly installed.
- Choosing any carpeting with patterns can be a problem as well. Pattern wears tend to happen and become unsightly as well.
3 – Tiles
We all love tiles! Tiles are easy to clean and more challenging to damage or stain. They are also perfect for any kitchen or bathroom and entryway. Depending on your budget, you can also find a wide range of tiles.
Be sure to hire a skilled installer to get that perfect fit. Tiled floors are also great because if you spill water on them, it won’t damage the floorboards. There are many types of tiles to choose from, which means they are suitable for any theme and color you choose for your home.
If you decide you would like a bit of variety in the color of your tile and would like a mix of colors in some areas, consider custom mosaic tile to be fitted. If you want to see the different styles, you can find some gorgeous mosaic tiles at Unique Building Concepts, which also takes custom requests.
4 – Wooden Flooring
Wooden flooring is great because there are many different colors and designs. Wood flooring is also popular because it can be cleaned much more quickly than carpets.
Our townhouse has wood flooring throughout the home, except for the three bedrooms. I regret not using wood flooring throughout my entire house. Adding more wood flooring is one of my first options for improving our home.
Wood flooring can be expensive to install, so get estimates beforehand.
5 – Laminate Floors
When you have laminate, you can choose from many different options. For example, you can find laminate flooring that looks like wood flooring and tile. Laminate is also very easy to keep clean and is practical to pay all over your home.
Laminate flooring is easy to clean, and you can find it less expensive than wood flooring. One of the drawbacks of installing laminate is if you damage it, it must be replaced. There’s no fixing it.
6 – Vinyl Flooring
Most of us can say at some point, we’ve had vinyl flooring installed in our homes. It’s wildly popular and very cost-effective as well. Vinyl flooring is convenient and is available in a wide array of colors and patterns.
There is a con for installing it, though – it can easily dent. If you have pets, this might not be a good option. Dogs and cats love digging their nails into vinyl flooring, and once it’s damaged, you can replace a piece, but it always looks different. That said, vinyl flooring comes in a peel-and-stick format, so it might be much easier to use instead of an entire roll of vinyl flooring.
I do love the patterns and colors vinyl flooring comes in, that’s for sure. It’s evolved since I was a kid!
7 – Cork Flooring
Oh my gosh, my heart be still! I love cork flooring – do you? There’s something unique about it and its many incredible benefits, too. It’s an excellent insulator that will keep your tootsies warm all winter.
Did you know that cork flooring is also more mold-resistant and antimicrobial? For those of us germaphobes, this is a great option.
It’s also more environmentally friendly and absorbs sounds more effectively, too. And as with any flooring, you have to follow the guidelines for cork flooring.
Stay away from standing water for long periods; direct sun can affect the color and cause discoloration over time.
8 – Rubber Flooring
Yes, rubber flooring is a thing! It’s become more widely used over the past few years, too. Like cork flooring, rubber flooring is great for absorbing sound and is pretty rad looking, too!
These interlocking floor tiles feature a stylish pattern and are a simple, cost-effective way to create or enhance an indoor or outdoor space. They are perfect for the patio, deck, walkways, gazebo, garage, or hard surfaces.
It’s also good for your joints and can be an excellent option for those who love to work out. Every time we paint the garage floor a few years later, it starts looking worn and starts to peel. What a great option!
10 – Penny Flooring
The whole penny flooring thing started a few years ago. I first saw it on Pinterest, and it quickly became popular. Penny flooring is unique and creates a solid flooring option to consider.
There are loads of tutorials on creating one, so be sure to keep it in mind when thinking about flooring ideas.
11 & 12 – Concrete and Paper Flooring
Another huge flooring idea trend is the paper flooring method. It’s not for my style, but it’s a cost-effective and fun way to remodel your floors. Another Pinterest fad, paper flooring, hit the mark and was pinned repeatedly.

It’s a low-maintenance option; you can create beautiful designs with concrete too.
13 – Foam Flooring
I just heard of installing foam flooring before when I started researching flooring ideas in the past few months. They make a great option as well. These interlocking foam mats are made from the highest quality premium foam. You can decorate your hard floor without compromising quality, comfort, or style.
These floor tiles fit together snugly like a puzzle and can easily be installed as a DIY project. They are versatile in use, and you can decorate bedrooms, the playroom, the living room, the basement, the garage, or the gym with them. They are a good choice and an economical solution for creating temporary or permanent flooring. Foam flooring is thick, durable, non-slip, easy to clean, and stays in place.
They are also available in a wide array of colors and patterns too!
14 – Faux Brick Flooring
I love how faux brink flooring looks! I also love it for decorating walls too. There are many ways to achieve this look, too. It can be a tremendous and expensive way to solve your flooring dilemma! I love it on a kitchen floor, as featured below on sale from Wayfair.
You can use scrap wood to achieve this look or purchase faux brick flooring tile. Faux brick flooring looks chic and can fit perfectly into any home decor.
I covered many ways to think about flooring ideas, but you’ll find plenty more if you do the research. The options become much more niche-oriented once you cycle past the major ones.
Overall, it cannot be easy to choose the right type of flooring for your home, but with a wide array of options, I know you’ll find something you love!
