As you know, your sensitive skin needs special attention. As you discovered, when you ignore the signs like redness, scaliness, and overall irritation, your skin gets angry! For me, the minute I ignore the needs of my skin, it lets me know.

More so, it’s essential to note that sensitive skin happens to any skin type. Regardless of your skin type, the signs require prompt attention. If you don’t attend to the needs of your skin, it will let you know!

If you don’t know whether or not you have sensitive skin, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Does my skin flush and look red all over, especially after cleansing?
  2. Do I get rashes, bumps, and pimples frequently, and not only during your cycle?
  3. When I apply skincare products to my face, does it burn and cause painful irritation?
  4. Does the skin on my face and body show broken capillaries?
  5. Do I have a loss of elasticity and thin skin on my face?
  6. When I wear fragrance, does it irritate my skin?
  7. Rosacea Symptoms – Do I have redness on my cheeks, nose, and chin?
  8. Immune System Disorder – If you have any immune disorders, they can affect our skin as well.

All of the symptoms and medical conditions listed above can cause sensitive skin. If you suspect any of these symptoms, please check with your medical professional.

Below, you’ll discover several ways to keep your sensitive skin happy all the time! With a few easy to follow steps in your skincare routine, you can nail it!

Sensitive Skin

1 – Always Remove Your Makeup Before Bedtime – Always!

It always surprises me to learn many people don’t remove their makeup before bedtime. Words can’t express how important it is, especially if you have sensitive skin. Leftover makeup on your skin can and does create skin irritation and worse. It clogs pores, creates blackheads and whiteheads, and promotes the effects of aging.

Above all, when removing makeup, make sure to use gentle swipes and avoid unnecessary friction. You don’t want to pull or tug your skin as that adds to the irritation. Those of us with sensitive skin should always treat our skin gingerly, especially under our eyes

Also, if you use makeup removal wipes, make sure you use only those developed for sensitive skin. Garnier SkinActive Micellar Makeup Towelettes should help resolve that problem. Micellar wipes let you take the gentle power of micellar cleansing water to clean your skin thoroughly.

Furthermore, try to use products with micellar water to clean your skin. Micellar water is very gentle to use and does a great job removing makeup. Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water for all skin types works incredibly well at removing makeup. It’s gentle on the skin and never leaves behind an oily residue.

I love these Organyc 100% Organic Cotton Rounds made with biodegradable cotton. They feature a chemical-free formula specifically made for sensitive skin. With over 6,000 5-Star reviews on Amazon, you know they are a cult favorite. You can thank me later!

In summary, remove all makeup before bed, use micellar products to remove makeup, and never pull or tug your skin. Doing so, you’ll find your skin will be happy and look great too. You don’t need a ton of facial cleansing products to clean your skin, either!

2 – If You Have Sensitive Skin, Never Skip A Routine

Sometimes, skipping a routine happens. And even though there’s nothing wrong with it (we’re all human, after all), it’s better to do it regularly. If your routine consists of many steps, you can simplify it when you lack motivation.

For example, if you already have several steps in your skincare routine and you feel lazy, you can skip a step or two. But don’t make a habit of it. You want to skin to rely on every step along the way. Every product you use creates a particular environment for your skin in the healing process.

Yes, at times, I do cut a step or two, but I only do that once or so a week. Every product I use in my skincare routine I use for a reason. For instance, my skincare routine looks like this:

  1. Cleanse – twice daily
  2. Exfoliate – twice weekly and once for sensitive skin
  3. Mask application – twice a week
  4. Eye cream or serum – twice daily
  5. Face serum – twice daily
  6. Vitamin C serum with Hyaluronic Acid – three times a week
  7. Daytime moisturizer – once daily
  8. Evening moisturizer – once daily

While that might seem like a lot of product, it works perfectly for my occasionally sensitive skin. That’s why you need to find the perfect sweet spot for your skin.

3 – Find Products That Work For You

Obviously, you want to find skincare products that work best for you. At times, the only way to find it is by trial and error. Sure, reviews help a lot, but you never know until you use them for yourself.

Many famous brands use questionable ingredients, and spotting them can be tricky. More so, if you don’t have any previous knowledge nor experience of the product.

This past year, I discovered Vitabrid C12 Vitamin C Skin Care, and my skin loves it. Vitabrid C12 uses a new and stabilized form of Vitamin C to transform and renew your skin. And it feels great on my skin with excellent results.

Therefore, reading the ingredients list and monitoring your skin can help you weed out the products you should avoid. Also, give yourself time because finding a perfect combo of products often requires patience and a bit of trial-and-error.

4 – Wear Makeup Developed For Sensitive Skin

As you know, if your skin suffers from redness and imperfections, wearing makeup is a blessing. It helps conceal problem areas quickly and boosts our self-esteem. Yes, we want to wear makeup but carefully and, of course, what looks best.

Rather than applying many layers of makeup, it’s better to opt for a no-makeup look as it will look more natural. Luckily, there are numerous clean makeup brands on the market. And finding something that fits you is not so difficult anymore!

Also, wearing little to no makeup can seriously impact your self-confidence because you’ll be able to accept yourself without stuffing your face with countless unnecessary products.

Yes, we want to wear makeup with sensitive skin, and you can do so with no issues. Remember, the less you wear, the happier your skin will feel and look, especially when it comes to face makeup.

5 – Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Moisturizing is often a crucial part of every skincare routine. When you have sensitive skin, it’s essential to find a moisturizer to keep your skin’s moisture. While at the same time protecting the skin from environmental factors such as pollution and severe weather conditions.

A good moisturizer will also be free of alcohol and other harsh ingredients that can dry the skin and cause irritation. Of course, you don’t want to over-moisturize either. Typically, applying moisturizer twice daily works great.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Facial Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin is the perfect solution. Plus, it features a gentle, hypoallergenic formulation that deeply moisturizes your skin. And it features a non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, oil-free, and alcohol-free formula. With over 6,000 5-Star reviews, you know they love it.

Bonus tip: applying a moisturizer to damp skin can seal the moisture and speed up the absorption process.

6 – Don’t Forget To Exfoliate

Exfoliation matters a lot, as it helps remove the dead skin cells, thus leading to healthier and better-looking skin. Exfoliating your skin can help prevent skin conditions and removes dead skin cells.

When you exfoliate your skin correctly, it uncovers fresh new cells and gives us glowing healthy skin in return. Above all, you want exfoliating products formulated for sensitive skin. Never use harsh exfoliators as this can worsen your irritation.

Era Organics Microdermabrasion Facial Scrub & Exfoliator works great on sensitive skin. And it removes stubborn blackheads, cleanses, and minimizes pores. This formula, specifically designed for sensitive skin, removes grime and dull skin while nourishing your cells- leaving healthy,

7 – Protect Your Skin All Year Long

There’s no point in having a skincare routine if you don’t intend to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays. Exposing your skin to direct sunlight can cause premature aging, and in some cases, even skin cancer. And all the more reason you should wear sunscreen every time you go outside.

Since sensitive skin is more prone to redness, a quality sunscreen with high SPF can do a lot to protect it from breaking out or looking red and irritated.

8 – Consider Some Additional Treatments

A regular skincare routine is a must if you want to keep your skin healthy and glowy, but sometimes, we can only do so much. In such cases, additional treatments can be considerably beneficial.

Hence, if you feel like your routine is okay but not quite enough, feel free to treat yourself to a facial treatment, but make sure to go to a licensed aesthetician who has enough experience dealing with your specific skin type.

9  – Foster A Healthy Relationship With Yourself

Once you master the art of self-love and self-acceptance, things become noticeably more manageable. The same goes for skincare routine: if you continuously feel like nothing’s good enough, then you’ll always see the flaws and focus on the negatives.

Instead, work on building a healthy self-image so you’ll be able to enjoy the journey and celebrate little victories along the way.

Final Thoughts On Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin requires all the love and care, so be sure to treat it with kindness. Establish a routine that fits your lifestyle, but if necessary, consider getting some additional professional treatments.

Finally, be patient and enjoy the ride as that is the best way to welcome eventual positive results and love yourself in the process.
