How to Put Together Your Perfect Skincare Routine
Taking care of your skin is important to keep it looking healthy and glowing, even as you age, your skin doesn’t have to. You’ve probably heard all kinds of things about how you should exfoliate and tone, but what does it all mean?
Having a skincare routine can be as complicated or as simple as you want, but these are the steps that you can take to keep your skin in good shape.
I’ve been using a skincare routine since my teens, and I have to say it’s paid off. Discovering good skincare products that work for your skin type is essential and sticking to a good routine even more so.
Today, we are featuring some of the important steps to ensure you are putting together the perfect skincare routine for you to ensure your skin stays beautiful and healthy!
Work Out Your Skin Type
This is the first step to taking care of your skin properly. Having a clear idea about what kind of skin you have and what it needs is important, as you need to know this before you can buy any products. There are so many skincare products out there, so to make it easier to choose the right one, you need to know what you are actually looking for. Regardless, if you are a high-end skincare lover or love shopping at the drug store, finding the right skincare products for you is what matters most.
Different products contain different ingredients, some are suited better for oily skin, dry skin, dehydrated skin, anti-aging. Your age and your skin type will determine which ingredients will be the most beneficial to you, so if you want to see the best results, don’t skip this step! If you hate dark circles and puffy eyes, your skincare routine should include specific products for those issues too.
There are four skin types:
- Normal skin
- Dry skin
- Oily skin
- Combination skin
The 8 Important Steps
You may have friends who have a 20-step routine and get regular facials and dermatologist trips, but as long as you do these 3 steps, you don’t need to worry about anything else. Of course, if you want to make your routine longer and include other things that’s fine too, but for those who prefer to keep things short and sweet then these are the things to include:
- Cleanse
- Exfoliate
- Tone
- Serums
- Masks
- Eye Creams
- Facial Moisturizers
- Skin Protectors – SPF
The cleanser helps to remove makeup and anything else on the skin. The toner is an extra step to remove any unwanted impurities. The moisturizer is essential regardless of your skin type, so even those with oily skin should include a good moisturizer. You can find a range of different products in most stores, but you can also look online, for example, you can buy original cosmetics at Maple Prime from a range of brands – from household names to up and coming sellers who are slowly making a name for themselves.
Do’s and Don’ts
Do find the right products for your skin. With so many different chemicals and ingredients, the choices can seem a little overwhelming, but the most expensive product isn’t always the best. Look for cleansers that are gentle and avoid products with alcohols and perfumes which can be irritating to sensitive skin and strip your skin of its natural oils. Don’t scrub your face. Whilst a gentle exfoliant once a week can help to unblock pores, scrubbing your face daily can aggravate the skin, so a gentle cleanser can work better to remove the impurities than scrubbing with a facecloth will.
Don’t Forget Sunscreen
If you look for a moisturizer that contains sun protection, then you have an easy 2-in-1 product. If your moisturizer doesn’t contain any SPF, make sure you buy a sun protection suitable for the face. Even if you don’t live in a sunny area, UVA and UVB from the sun can cause damage to your skin even on cloudy days. Wearing sunscreen every day helps to protect your skin from the suns damage, keeping it healthier as well as stopping the aging effects that the sun has on your skin.
Remember to listen to what your skin is telling you. If a product is too drying on your skin or feels irritating, it is much better to switch it out for something that will work better. Looking after your skin doesn’t have to be complicated, so taking the time each day to care for it should be part of your everyday skincare routine.
