Bring The Outdoors Inside With An Indoor Herb Garden In Your Kitchen

The best thing about a herb garden is that it does not take up a lot of space.  An indoor herb garden can be grown in containers and you can simply grow as many as you have room for in your kitchen. The window ledges in your kitchen are the ideal spot to place the containers as herbs need a lot of light to thrive.

  • Basil is a good herb to eat for anyone who is suffering from osteoarthritis. It can also help to improve digestive issues.
  • Rosemary is good to use for anyone who is trying to reduce their cholesterol. It is also sometimes used as part of cancer treatment.
  • Thyme helps to get rid of harmful bacteria if you use it as a mouthwash as it has powerful antioxidant properties.

What to think about when creating an herb garden?

There are several important points that you need to consider when starting a herb garden in your home. Taking these points into account means that you are more likely to be successful at growing herbs.

Is there enough light?

As the folks at Wikilawn advise: “A majority of the herb plants you could grow desire full sun, and that is the trickiest part about growing herbs inside. You need to find a spot in your kitchen that receives enough sunlight. Herbs prefer six to eight hours of direct sunlight.”

This means that you need to make sure that there is enough natural sunlight coming into your kitchen. If this is not the case, it’s possible to use grow lights to create the additional light that is required.

Are you buying the right seeds?

Always remember to pay attention to which herbs you are going to use the most and concentrate on buying seeds for those herbs. This may sound obvious, but many people do not figure out their preferences before they shop for seeds and they end up wasting money and time.

It’s also a good idea to opt for herbs that are hardy and to choose heirloom seeds if you can, as opposed to hybrids.

Do you know how to water herbs?

If you do not have this information before you start to grow herbs in your kitchen, your herbs could die as most herbs do not like too much water. Remember to use pots that have drainage holes in the bottom, and saucers for excess water to be collected in.

The Herb Planter Flower Pot below might be the perfect way to get started on your indoor herb garden. It also features proper drainage too.

Once the herbs start to grow, remember to let them mature before you harvest them, to add some more flavor to your food. Be sure to be mindful of watering your indoor herb garden as you don’t want to over or under water them.
