Before we begin, can I please ask you to HEART this article? You can find the heart emoji on the lower right-hand side of this article. Thank you! It means the world to us! ❤️
Do you know what hiding down in your carpet fiber? I’m sure you don’t think about the creepy germs and dirt embedded in them, do you?
More so, are there mites crawling around in your carpets? Yes, these are creepy mites and much more!
Yes, according to the American Lung Association, carpets may trap pollutants like dust mites, pet dander, cockroach allergen, particle pollution, lead, mold sores and much more!
Therefore, there are unlimited health benefits of maintaining clean and hygiene carpets in your homes, and especially offices.
No doubt, carpets get the most use in our offices and homes. That’s reason enough to ensure they are cleaned frequently.
For example, in places like Dubai in the Middle East, people understand the importance of keeping their carpets cleaned regularly. If you reside in areas where dessert or dusty lands are prevalent, it’s even more important to keep your carpets cleaned.
In this article, we will discuss several reasons why it’s so important to keep your carpets cleaned regularly.

Moreover, did you ever think about why you feel sick all the time? The reason might be because of your dirty carpeting.
Yes, a lot of carpet manufacturers advise to get professional carpet cleaning services at every 12-18 months, and that’s for a reason.
In our townhome, we have three carpeted bedrooms. I always have my carpets cleaned one a year and at times, I feel that’s not enough.
This year, we are saving to replace our carpeting with hardwood like the rest of our home but until then, cleaning them is a top priority.
I adore hardwood flooring with beautiful area rugs for accents and to keep your feet warm as well. But until then, it’s all about keeping my carpets cleaned.
Did You Know Children Are At Greater Risk?
First, we should talk about how your children are at greater risk when your carpets are dirty.
Did you know, according to ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, the health risks to babies from pollutants in house dust might be 100 times greater than for adults?
In addition, children ingest more dust and are up to ten times more vulnerable to such exposures.
House dust is the main exposure source for infants to allergens, lead, and PBDEs, as well as a major source of exposure to toxins.
Especially, pesticides, PAHs, Gram-negative bacteria, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, phthalates, phenols, and other EDCs, mutagens, and carcinogens.
That’s the number one reason you should have your carpets cleaned regularly and keep them clean as well.
Obviously, no carpet is100% clean, even if you use the best vacuuming machine but, using them regularly keeps your carpeting much cleaner.
Although, last year, we bought a Dyson Cordless Vacuum Cleaner and I have to admit, my carpets feel and look so much cleaner!
Although these machines for a time clean the surface, never ensures you about 100% deep cleanliness. This is why I always hire a professional carpet cleaning company to make sure the job is done right!
Yes, Your Shoes Bring In Dust and Mites
We all know how dirty the bottom of our shoes is and wearing them in our homes brings that dirt and germs right in.
Reasons to leave your shoes at the door
- Shoes are a breeding ground for bacteria.
- Our shoes pick up toxins and you bring them right into your home.
- Taking your shoes off at the door saves time on cleaning bills.
- Your shoes wreak havoc on your flooring, especially carpeting.
- The average shoe sole has over 421,000 bacteria and that 90% of those bacteria transfer directly to a clean floor on the first contact.
Above, those are just a few reasons why it’s a good idea to remove your shoes before you enter your home.
If you feel embarrassed asking family or guests to remove their shoes, you can create a special area in your home with a stylish shoe rack bench where folks can easily remove their shoes.
I think most folks would understand and easily cooperate with your request. More so, if you have young children in your home it’s much easier for them to understand.
Keeping Your Carpets Cleaned To Prevent Respiratory Problems
For example, millions of people suffer from respiratory problems with varied symptoms and the numbers increase yearly.
As an asthma sufferer and allergy sensitivity as well, I know how important it is to have my carpets cleaned regularly.
Even though I have two excellent air purifiers in my home, the air quality in my bedroom would be far worse if I didn’t clean my carpets every year.
In addition to respiratory problems, dirty carpeting can also give you the following illnesses.
- Irritated skin like rashes and hives
- Frequent headaches
- Persistent cough or sore throat
- Fatigue and overall lethargy
- Red, irritated eyes
- Irritation of the nose and throat
- Difficulty breathing especially for asthma sufferers
The reasons above are a great motivation for you to clean your carpets cleaned every year and keep them as clean as possible too!
Spot Cleaning Your Carpeting – Is It Worth The Effort?
Since we already know that our carpet is 4000 times dirtier than our toilet seat, let’s talk about spot cleaning our carpeting.
To be honest, I spot clean my carpets all the time. Any and every time I see a stain or someone drops something on my carpets, I whip out my all-time favorite spot cleaner.
Firstly, spot cleaning means treating only part of your carpet that has stains on it. I can’t express the shock when I visit homes and see dirty areas on their carpets that can be easily cleaned in minutes!
I’m never sure if folks are just plain lazy, don’t care, or don’t really notice these nasty stains. Either way, you should always jump on any opportunity to spot clean your carpets and do it fast.
The faster you clean a stain, the more likely it is to lift out without any leftover residue or discoloration.
Spot cleaning is easy! Grab a damp rag and your favorite spot cleaner, spray, let it sit for a few minutes and rub it out as best you can.
And yes, spot cleaning does matter in the overall cleanliness of your carpets. Whether it’s area rugs or wall to wall carpeting, always spot clean and right away!
Is Steam Cleaning The Best Solution For Your Carpets?
Yes, it’s right! Steam cleaning your carpets is the best way to target a high volume of accumulated dust packed inside the fiber of the carpet.
Steam cleaning is my preferred way to keep my carpets cleaned as well. While your carpeting will experience some dampness for a few hours, it does dry quickly and you can still walk on them.
More so, the cleaning agents work great and reach deep into the carpeting. All the dirt, oils, and other sediments loosen, and the steam cleaning kills germs too!
The cleansers used in steam cleaning machines add protection to carpet fibers to prevent future stains; much like you might apply a stain shield spray to furnishings.
Either way, whatever method you prefer for keeping your carpets cleaned, make sure you do it once a year!
Now, with the new year, it’s the perfect time to clean your carpets and make your home feel and look sparkly. I already scheduled mine for cleaning next week. How about you?
