How To Easily Give Your Old Headboard A Dreamy Farmhouse Makeover
If you love upcycling your furniture then you are going to really love this transformation. I easily transformed an old and forgotten headboard into a farmhouse style dream using Vintage Furniture Paints. You too can learn how to easily give your old headboard a dreamy farmhouse makeover.
I recently turned an additional office in our home into a guest room and was in need of a headboard for the new bed. I popped into a local antique shop and saw this unique headboard which turned out to be a perfect fit for my vision. It was solid wood and in great condition and my imagination went to work detailing the nuances of how I knew this could work.
The best part is this headboard only set me back $40! What a great deal.
I chose some stunning colors from Vintage Paints which were, Antique Blue, Heron, Lonestar, and a Matte Finishing Creme. The quality of this paint is like no other and the colors are vibrant and opaque.
Vintage Market & Design – Since 1969 their chalk based paint and decorative finishes have been made in America. VM&D Professional Paint and Decorative Finish products are formulated to work together to enable anyone, from the novice to the professional painter, to create a beautiful and long-lasting finish on wood, metal, glass, rigid plastic or fabric.
The colors are vibrant and the quality outstanding!
I knew these three colors were exactly what I was envisioning for my headboard. Vintage Furniture Paint colors are alive with vibrant pigments and the finish is perfection!
This is how the headboard before it received a farmhouse dreamy makeover. Plain and nothing exciting but packed with potential. There are 75 colors to choose from!
The best news was I didn’t need to do a stitch of prepping. Well, I did clean it well and removed any grime, dust, or old wax. That was super easy and just required some soapy water to get that job done.
I wanted to create an ombré design to the trim so I began experimenting with layers of paint colors emphasizing on a darker to lighter look from left to right. I also used small brushstrokes of the deeper blue and blended them out.
I knew I was on the right path and needed to deepen the color palette using a gradient effect which was easily attainable by adding more of the blues to one side and blending into the lighter tones.
I also wanted to add some stenciling too and found my favorite fleur-de-lis design. To give it some depth, I layered some of the lighter blue and white over it.
I think it really added some farmhouse appeal!
I’m so thrilled with the transformation of my new guest room and this headboard really sealed the deal.
I love how my handmade ceramic table fits perfectly with the entire room. If you would like to learn how to make one too, be sure to visit the tutorial!
