How To Easily Change The Color Of Your Desktop Folders
If you’re into organizing your desktop why not do it in color! You’ll be excited to know that you can color-code all of your folders at work or at home. I love being organized – but I love even more without all the arduous work. I also love using color to help me get the job done in a more aesthetically pleasing way! Add the two together and you have a colorful and wonderfully organized desktop.
With all the desktop folders on our computers, it’s so difficult to find anything but once you color code them, it’s a game changer. Now, I can easily find any folder I need without having to scan and overlook the one I need.
For example, if you have a folder that you keep your financial information in, you can make that one green, or if you have an important document folder, you can make that one red and so on. You can also use them to change the folder icon to represent the state of that folder meaning, if you have a folder with private data, you can change the icon to have a small lock appear.
I love sharing all the awesome tools and tips I use to help me be better organized, blog more efficiently, and make life easier in general with you! Since this is an application for Window’s users – all you MAC folks can change your folder colors too. I Googled this topic and found loads of tutorials for it too so you are not out of luck!
There is an easy to install and free application called Folder Marker. Folder Marker is freeware add-on for Windows lets you mark folders with color-coded icons to make a search for important information a “one-glance” affair.
Folder icons can be customized using the standard Windows method, but with Folder Marker Free you can do this on the fly from the right-click menu of a folder. So there is no need to go through additional dialogs or run Folder Marker Free itself! Simply select the folder you want to mark, right-click on its icon and select a color-coded icon from the drop-down menu. The icon will be assigned to the folder at once.
With the same simplicity, you can mark several folders. Simply select a group of folders with the mouse and assign a new icon from the right-click menu. Another great option is an ability to add up to ten icons of your choice to Folder Marker and use them in marking along with the default icons. The program can assign icons to a folder from a wide array of file formats, including ICO, ICL, EXE, DLL, CPL or BMP.
This edition of Folder Marker contains only basic functions so it is good for beginners. There is also a paid for version as well – that’s the version I have. I loved it that much!
Here you can compare Folder Marker Free with other editions of Folder Marker.

If you want to color code more than one folder at a time, click on Folder in the nav bar and then check Multiple Folders.
Folder Marker can change the icons of ALL folders in your system. This is the favorite feature of customization lovers. Get rid of monotony! Make your folders your own!
