Is Your Home Healthy? What You Need To Know
Is your home as healthy as you think it is for you and your family? We have a healthy home checklist so you can make sure it is.

Your Healthy Home Checklist
Ideally, our homes are where we spend most of our time and create treasured moments.
In addition, many of us don’t stop to think if our homes are indeed healthy. What does that mean? Well, we break it down for you so you can create a healthy home checklist.
Of course, we all want our home to be a healthy place for our families and friends. It’s important to know about all the potential problems lurking in your home.
Regardless of where you live, it’s essential your home is a healthy home and it’s conducive to good occupant health standards.
Below, we will detail some of the key pointers to ensure your home is a healthy one and what you can do to make sure it is.

Checking For Radon
Certainly, one of the biggest things that people forget to do when they move into a new home is check for radon. As part of your healthy home checklist, this is very important.
Radon is a radioactive gas that is naturally present in soil and is one of the highest leading causes of lung cancer.
However, when we first purchased our home, we never checked for radon until my neighbor did years later. Turns out, the radon in his home returned extremely high levels.
Talk about luck! When my neighbor installed his radon removal system, it also lowered our levels as well.
Radon enters your home through the cracks in your structure or foundation. This is how you and your family receive direct exposure to the gas in your home.
More importantly, you can purchase a radon test kit on Amazon or in hardware stores in your neighborhood. It’s very important to test your residence whether you own your home or not.

Using All-Natural Cleaning Products In Your Home
Ideally, when you purchase cleaning products for your home, you should aim for all-natural products. While this isn’t always possible, it’s a goal you should keep in mind.
Ironically, we think we are cleaning our homes using them but in fact, we are polluting the clean air in our homes.
For years, I always purchased the best-selling household cleaners and never realized the damage they do. This might apply to you as well.
As we know, chemical cleaners obviously give off harsh chemicals which can really do damage to the health of you and your family.
However, chemicals often linger within the environment of your home. This means we inhale them for longer period of time too.
For example, instead of sticking to chemical cleaners, try to use eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaners that don’t pose a threat to your health.
Therefore, more and more companies now avoid adding these harsh chemicals and opt for more natural cleaning products. That’s great news!

Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Above all, it’s so very important to make sure your home has carbon monoxide detectors installed throughout.
Thereby, as part of your healthy home checklist, it’s essential you install carbon monoxide detectors in your home.
As you might know, carbon monoxide gives off an odorless and invisible gas that can cause major health issues and worse!
Accordingly, that’s why you need to ensure that you have a working carbon monoxide detector to detect any signs that your household may contain carbon monoxide.
Every year, at least 430 people die in the U.S. from accidental CO poisoning. Approximately 50,000 people in the U.S. visit the emergency department each year due to accidental CO poisoning.
Likewise, be sure to install a trusted carbon monoxide detector in your home. Don’t take this toxic gas lightly!
In addition to our smoke alarms, we purchased carbon monoxide detectors in several key locations of our home.
Notably, they definitely give us peace of mind. Be sure to add them to your healthy home checklist.

Have a Well-Ventilated Home
As part of our healthy home checklist, we always change our air filters every month.
Significantly, it’s so important to make sure you do this regularly. We set up reminders on our Alexa Echo Plus. It never fails to remind us of all our important tasks around our home.
It’s so important to make sure you do this regularly. After all, you don’t want pollutants and stagnant air circulating around your home.
Stagnant air within households allows air pollutants to build up as there’s no ventilation to flush the bacteria and chemicals out of a room.
Therefore, it’s extremely important to make sure that you change your home’s filters regularly and have the right size.
There are hundreds of filter sizes to choose from and the wrong one will lead to gaps and dirty air circulating throughout your home.
That’s why it’s important to ensure you measure correctly and get the right size for your needs.
These filters are incredibly useful in removing bacteria, chemicals, and pollutants from the atmosphere within your home.
This reduces the likelihood of experiencing health issues, such as allergens and respiratory problems, from the result of having stagnant, stale air that’s full of contaminants.

Mold And Dampness In Your Home
Most importantly, if you find mold or damp in your home, it’s vitally important that you remove them from your household as soon as possible.
Mold and damp can have a huge effect on your health and lead to issues such as difficulty breathing, chest tightness, skin irritation, and asthma and far more.
If you don’t think that you’ll be able to effectively remove the mold or damp completely, it’s best to contact a professional as soon as you can.
In other words, mold spores will enter your home in a variety of ways. Like through windows, vents air conditioning and heating systems and doorways.
Excess moisture causes mold to grow in your home as well. If you have leaks in your home via roofs, windows, or any pipes and flooding, you’ll want to attend to it right away.
It will grow on paper products as well including cardboard, ceiling tiles, wood products and that includes furniture.
Moreso, as part of your healthy home checklist, it’s vital to attend to any mold or mildew issues in your home.
