11 Unique Home Decor Hacks You Need To See!
We decided to round-up eleven of our favorite unique home decor hacks that are perfect for trying out over the winter.
As the outdoor temperatures start to drop in the northern hemisphere, many of our DIY projects move from the garden to indoors.
11 Unique Home Decor Hacks You Need To See!
It’s always so much fun learning new home decor hacks and trends, and if you are a crafter, you won’t want to miss out on them.
I love crafting and learning new ways to perk up my home. And, sharing the home decor hacks we love with you is so much fun!
1. Use Unused Teapots As Vases
The popularity of the electric kettle has meant that nowadays, you’re more likely to find a teapot locked away in a cupboard than sitting on a kitchen bench. That’s a shame as their unique shape and quirky designs mean they can easily double up as an eye-catching vase.
2. Paint The Inside Of A Plain Lampshade
One quick and easy way to change the ambiance of a room is to paint the interior of a lampshade. Gold arguably works best for creating a cozy atmosphere. If you want to try something a little more dramatic, choose red. See how it’s done on YouTube.
If you don’t want to make one yourself, you can always buy this Royal Designs Lamp Shade. I love the contrast between black and the gold interior!
3. Lay Down Marble Contact Paper
Marble is one of the most desirable materials to use around your home. It’s also very expensive. That’s why we love marble contact paper. It’s cheap, easy to apply and works on everything from kitchen worktops to bedside tables.
There are so many uses for contact paper like using it to give your windows a perk and some serious privacy too. You can see an example of how it’s done on YouTube.
4. Turn Unwanted Bedside Drawers into Chic Trays
Don’t throw out or sell that old bedside table just yet. If the draws are shallow, try transforming them into farmhouse style serving trays instead.
Alternatively, you could create a character-filled side table by flipping the draws upside down and gluing them on top of one another.
5. Hide Ugly Objects Using Old Books
Staplers, hole punches, calculators…they’re a bit of an ugly bunch, aren’t they? Thankfully, using just a box, glue gun, and some old books, we can easily hide them away out of sight. You can see how it’s done on YouTube.
6 – Create The Perfect Stash!
A hollowed-out book is a great place to stash valuable items. Alternatively, you can use this hack to disguise an unsightly internet router. See how it’s done by watching this YouTube video!
It’s a great way to protect the things you want to keep hidden. If you don’t want to make them yourself, you can always buy this set of Book Safe 3-Pack Fake Hollow Books.
7. Create a Work Surface Trash Shoot
One way to make life easier for the chef in your household is to create a work surface shoot that feeds directly into a green bin below. This way, any peelings or off cuttings can simply be wiped away with the minimum of fuss. You can just how it’s done on YouTube.
8. Use Tape to Create Picture Frames
Traditional picture frames can sometimes look too formal for certain rooms in a home. If you want to add a dash of personality to your wall decorations, try using washi tape instead.
It comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Leaving you free to choose just how eccentric you want the finished design to look. You can get a variety of Washi Tape from Amazon.
9. Use Washi Tape To Create A Feature Wall
We’re not finished with washi tape just yet. The versatility of the material means it can also be used to create a dramatic pattern on a plain wall.
If you’re living in rented accommodation, this is a cost-effective way of decorating your home space that won’t upset the landlord. You can see an example of how it’s done YouTube too.
If you don’t feel like making this wall pattern yourself, you can always buy WallsByMe Peel and Stick Black and White Lines Geometric Removable Wallpaper. Simply stunning!
10. Fill In Your Fireplace With Logs
A non-functional fireplace can look bare if left untouched. One solution to the problem is to create a stacked log effect. See how it was done on YouTube.
To achieve the look;
- Cut out a piece of fiberboard to the same size as the fireplace and paint it black.
- Next, chop a couple of different logs of wood into tens of different slices.
- Glue the cut wood pieces onto the blackboard.
The result not only looks good but also block out drafts of wind coming down through the chimney.
11. Bring Life Back To A Dead Light Bulb
The next time one of your lightbulbs calls it quits, don’t throw it away. Instead, hollow out the bulb and fill it with different pieces of moss and soil. Then, use a piece of copper wire to create a stand.
Watch as your own handmade upcycled terrarium begins to flourish. This is one of my favorite home decor hacks! You can see just how this is done on YouTube.
