How To Easily And Beautifully Give Your Windows Privacy

Sharing is Caring! ❤️

I found the perfect way to easily and beautifully give your windows privacy using Artscape removable film laminate.  It’s the ideal way to give your windows the privacy they need and at the same time, get the beauty of stained glass.

I’ve used this product twice so far and I’m so excited to continually find ways to use it where my windows need some spicing up and privacy. It’s super easy to install and even easier to remove if you have to.

I have a kitchen cabinet that has some glass panes, and I never liked it since the day we bought our home. It’s right next to the stove and whenever we cook, these glass panes get greased and gunked up so easily.

I didn’t want any solution that was permanent but wanted something that would give the cabinet window privacy as well as be easier to clean up after cooking. Since some folks like kitchen cabinet windows I decided to come up with a solution that’s easily restored back to its original state – who knows – we might sell our house someday and that little feature might be a deal-breaker.

You can see in the image below, just how gunked up these windows get. Yuck! I can’t tell you how many times a week I have to clean them. That’s a huge turnoff for me and knew there was a solution out there. Look at that mess! And it’s all from cooking. Oddly, they are a dust magnet too which maddened me even more!

Also – I don’t want folks to see what’s inside my cabinets! I don’t think it’s appealing even with beautiful dishware. It’s just not something I’m personally into or find attractive. To each, their own right?

I remembered a solution I used for a window in my office closet. Yep, there’s a window in my closet. It’s the oddest place for one, but I guess when they designed my home that was the only place for it. From the street, you can clearly see inside my closet and all of my items in it! I immediately ran out and found a product I knew would work.

It’s called Artscape Window Film  – you can get them on Amazon and they have loads of patterns and styles too.

Here’s the link to purchase the Rice Paper pattern in case you are interested. They have so many patterns I love them all!

This pattern is called Rice Paper and it’s one of my favorites!

OK, so back to my kitchen window issue. Here’s how easy it is to transform any window in your home and how I gave my kitchen a whole new look easily and beautifully!

This is how it looks when you peel it off the roll.

Be sure to take the glass pane out of the cabinet first. Clean the window well as well as the surrounding areas. Look at how dusty it gets behind the glass!

No need for wasting your time measuring either. Just lay the film over your glass and cut around it to fit. Of course, if you are adding Artscape film to a window, it’s a good idea to measure first.

You can use a blade to trim the excess or scissors.

Once you have the measurement in line, be sure to spray the surface with some soapy water and then begin to press the air bubbles out. You can see from the left side to the right the difference as I push the air bubbles out. It’s super easy to do.

Gently place the window pane back into the cabinet and done!

  1. As always, you come up with the best ideas. I could use this product in a 100 places. It’s one of those that “you didn’t know existed, but you surely wished you always had known” products. LOL… Does that even make sense? Anyway…thanks for sharing. I’ll be giving this a try. XO Susie from Chelsea Project

  2. I have a window in my living room that is very high and I was concerned about the sun damaging some of my furniture. I bought a roll of this item from Home Depot and had to have a handyman bring his ladder to place it. I did not only because it is so high. It is so perfect and blinds out the sun. And very colorful.

  3. Thanks so much Susie! Yep, I know exactly what you mean. lol. I just love this product. There are so many uses for it. I can’t wait to use it on my bathroom mirror as a decorative element. So much fun! The stained glass looks so real it’s mind-blowing!

  5. Hi, I just used the same pattern on the door which leads from my kitchen to the garage which has 9 panes of glass on the top half of the door. The instructions said to spray water on the glass, but I notice you mention soapy water. Does it work better? If so, what would be the ratio of soap to water? Thank you.

  6. HI Peggy,
I’ll bet your door looks stunning! Yes, soapy water worked great. It really allows you to smooth the bubbles out better and positions the film easier. I used very little soap. Like maybe one drop to a spray bottle. Hope that helps. I love this film and have other projects lined up for using it in my home soon. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  7. Okay this is definitely a cool product and I am trying to think of a window or glass panel in my house that may need this. Well, I love it and it really does change the look of the space. Thanks.

  8. Hi Carolann,
I love what you’ve done with your windows. There absolutely beautiful especially your closet window.
I was wondering if this would work on an already frosted window? It’s a flat surface and just blah. I would love to have some type of beautiful design on it.
    Have a wonderful day!

  9. Hi Pennylynn,
Yes, it can work with a frosted window for sure but try not to get an Artscape that’s see through. Maybe one with a pattern would work better at covering the frost. I hope that helps. It does cover very good so you might be able to get away with it. Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope to see you again soon!
